Agriculture and
Bulk Storage
TRUSTED BY MULTINATIONAL FOOD PRODUCERS
Since 1984, Spantech has delivered specialised agricultural buildings to some of the world’s leading agricultural companies.
McCain Foods, Viterra, Graincorp, Talley’s and Watties are just a few of the multinational companies that use Spantech buildings to protect and preserve their agricultural produce and bulk commodities.
On the farm, at the processing plant or port-side, Spantech buildings are improving the profitability of major food producers and commodity traders by cost effectively protecting their assets and minimising handling costs.
Spantech agricultural buildings are currently available in Australia and New Zealand, and via licensees in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
BESPOKE BUILDINGS
Spantech has developed unique solutions for:
Spantech bulk storage buildings are cost effective, long lasting and low maintenance solutions that lower the operating cost and profit potential for a wide range of agricultural crops and other bulk produce.
COST EFFECTIVE GRAIN STORAGE BUILDINGS
Spantech offers the most cost effective grain storage buildings
Spantech horizontal bulk grain storage buildings are a very cost-effective long-term storage solution. They present excellent value for money for grain and other bulk agricultural commodities.
TYPES OF GRAIN STORES
Ground to Ground Grain Stores
Spantech’s most cost-effective agriculture buildings are the ground-to-ground arched building design.
Spantech Woomera 300 profiles are connected to concrete footings to provide a free-spanning arched building similar to the WWII Nissen Hut.
Importantly, Spantech’s modern interpretation of this design does not require any internal structure.
Spantech’s wide-span arch technology creates a smooth, low maintenance internal finish.
The uncluttered wide open space is ideal for the storage of grain and other bulk produce. The shape of the building also allows grain to be stacked directly against the curved walls of the building.
Wide-Span Bulk Grain Storage
Wide span bulk grain storage buildings are constructed at large inland grain depots and shipping ports.
Glencore New Zealand currently operates four Spantech bulk grain storage facilities at ports on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Spantech bulk stores are constructed with the Spantech Pinkenba 370 profile.
These wide-span metal profiles are connected to load bearing reinforced concrete walls between 4 metres and 8 metres high. The walls can be designed to support any specified product loads from grains to copper concentrate.
THE SPANTECH DIFFERENCE
Fully Sealed Buildings
The Spantech Pinkenba 370 and Woomera 300 profiles provide a clean internal finish, free of internal supports. This smooth internal finish can be sealed to allow fumigation of stored product.
Lighting
Spantech offers excellent natural lighting with low profile skylights. Artificial lighting features commercial quality low heat LED lighting. Fittings can be surface mounted directly to the Spantech curved roof to minimise dust accumulation and eliminate vermin roosts. Where extreme fire risk exists, light fittings can be installed outside the building with light directed through insulated glass ports. The fittings can be safely accessed via the roof access system.
Ventilation
Passive and mechanical ventilation systems are available. Where buildings are sealed for fumigation, all vents can be mechanically sealed.
POTATO STORAGE
LONG TERM POTATO STORAGE
Over a quarter of a million tonnes of potatoes are stored in Spantech Potato Stores annually
Spantech is the market leader in the design and construction of Potato Storage Facilities.
INNOVATIVE POTATO STORAGE SOLUTIONS
Spantech provides an innovative complete end-to-end storage system using its patented construction system to maximum effect. The result is a very economical whole of life solution that can be constructed quickly, even in remote areas.
The stores are ideally suited for processing plants or on-farm storage for growers and co-operatives.
Highly Efficient Potato Storage with Minimal Shrinkage and Loss
The Spantech Potato Store features a highly efficient central storage space, superior insulation and a fully automated, energy-efficient climate control system.
Spantech Potato Stores can keep potatoes at premium quality with minimal shrinkage or degradation for up to nine months.
The buildings accommodate a variety of mechanical handling options. Most customers use the mobile Spudnik equipment. The internal height also allows semi-trailers to tip in the central zone of the building.
Most Experienced Potato Storage Builder in the Southern Hemisphere If experience counts, in 2022 Spantech will deliver its 57th potato storage building to McCain Foods at Ballarat. That is an average of one an a half buildings a year since 1984 with a total storage capacity approaching 280,000 tonnes.
Spantech customers include the most respected names in the industry: McCain Foods, SAFries, Talley’s Group, Heinz Wattie, and Pengrove Potato Stores. And all are repeat customers.
