Design and construct an indoor weapons training facility to suit electronic training technology |
NZ Defence approached Spantech soon after completion of the successful ESH project at Waiouru to provide a structure to house a weapons training system.
Spantech undertook to prepare a proposal in liaison with FATS, the Weapons Training System (WTS) equipment supplier. The end result was a unique fit for purpose building with added benefits which completely satisfied NZ Defence requirements.
It was necessary to construct the building during the cold winter months, however, it was completed on time and well below original budget estimate.
The building provided 2 separate 12 lane firing positions, special slopping floors including fox holes, air conditioning, weapons storage, training rooms, office, kitchen and amenities.
Many aspects of the design were only possible with the aid of Spantech's wide span curve-roofed technology.
