Design and construct 5 ESH and an APB facility |
On 19 May 2006 Spantech successfully completed a project for New Zealand Defence at the New Zealand Army Base, Waiouru.
The project, comprising of five explosives storehouses (ESH) and an ammunition preparation building (APB), commenced on 26 October 2005 and ran smoothly to finish approximately 2 weeks ahead of schedule. The main hindrance during the construction period was the notoriously unpredictable weather.
The facility was officially opened on 2 June 2006 by the Chief of Army, Major General Lou Gardiner, ONZM. During the handover Spantech CEO Dick Lucas presented a replica model of an ESH to the army base. The event was attended by over 100 NZ Army representatives and guests.
The ESH and APB facility were constructed to replace the existing ammunition storages which were built over 50 years ago. The fully tested and NATO approved Spantech ESH was chosen by New Zealand Defence due to its unique and economical design. The buildings have been fully approved by US Defence for storage of the ammunition and weapons intended to be housed in the new facility.
The APB was fully designed and constructed by Spantech with extensive input from New Zealand Defence, ensuring the design meet their specific requirements.
