Construct a multi-purpose shade structure and ancillary works over existing court |
Architects Fairweather Probers created a striking design for St Pius X Schools Multi Purpose Shade Cover. The modern design creates a feeling of space that defies the bounds of the small site.
A Spantech arched roof is supported on one side by round galvanised columns, while the other side features counter levered right angled U beams forming a verandah that defines the structure. The verandah has a trimdeck roof, a full length translucent skylight with timber seating overlooking the oval.
A sweeping concrete staircase featuring stainless steel handrails leads to the playground and oval.
The shade cover is now the focal point of many school activities including a variety of classes and a range of sports.
Line marking includes netball and four handball courts.
Spantech's scope of works included structural design, footings, structural steel, Spantech roof, concrete stairs, handrails and fencing, skylights, timber seating, plumbing and electrical services.
